SPECIAL ISSUE ON PLASTIC RECOVERY & RECYCLE
DEADLINE for PAPER SUBMISSION is MARCH 31, 2023
EXPECTED PUBLICATION is APRIL 30, 2023

From the fifties to today it is estimated that 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been produced, generating about 6.3 billion tons of waste.
Of these, 79% was sent to landfills or released into the environment, 12% was incinerated and only 9% recovered through recycling.
To date, it is estimated that around 150 Mton of plastic waste is present in the oceans, with a growth rate of around 8 Mton per year.

The management of plastic waste has significantly improved in recent years, especially in Europe where the recycling rate is around 35% and has been growing continuously in recent years.
However, it is necessary to continue on this path, and to extend virtuous management methods to developing countries.
This Special Issue of Chemical Engineering Transactions covers the supply chain from design for raw materials, design for recycling, collection, sorting and recycling of industrial, commercial, agricultural, post-consumer and ocean plastic through to the recycled polymer being designed and incorporated into new products and applications
A non-exhaustive list of topics is:

• PLASTIC STRATEGY IN EUROPE
• MATERIAL RECYCLING FOCUS
• RECYCLING'S ROLE IN A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
• PUBLIC VIEW ON PLASTICS RECYCLING
• FROM COLLECTION TO END USE
• MARKETS AND POLICY
