ICMF 2016

ICMF 2016 Official Logo

Designing the logo for ICMF 2016 was inspired by ideas of the Renaissance based on the circle and the square. Besides being perfect and harmonious, the circle and the square were symbols of the universe and the earth, and of the concepts of divine and earthling.
In 'De Divina Proportione' (1497), written by Fra Luca de Pacioli and illustrated by Leonardo da Vinci, mathematical proportions are discussed in the context of their applications to geometry, visual art and architecture. The clarity of the written material and Leonardo's excellent diagrams helped the book to achieve an impact beyond mathematical circles, popularizing contemporary geometric concepts and images.

The lettering of 'De Divina Proportione' is the basis of the ICMF 2016 logo. The choice of the colors was inspired by the marble stones of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, the main church of Firenze.
